Project of Master's thesis in set and costume design for the Lyric Opera .
It tried to convey the timelessness of the play Medea , as expressed through the contemporary myth.
I opted for a scene which highlights a timeless structure , but also ancient and eternal with the intervention of evocative and functional elements ; the presence of the pool refers to an ancient bond with the water , to the amniotic fluid of creation, but also to more didactic interpretation of the sea of Corinth. The ring structure , due to its rotational movement , will be the core of the drama that pulsates within : Revenge of the Female forced to emancipate herself by abolishing the maternal side in the eternal battle of the sexes . The ring, in addition to being a more abstract and contemporary element, is also the motherhood of Medea : the ring ( Medea ) that holds the ball ( children) in the last act turns, while the ring disappears , Medea chooses to abandon her maternal spirit but the ball is doubled, because of the weight of the murder of the children which will accompany her forever .
Si è cercato di trasmettere l’atemporalità del dramma di Medea, così come la contemporaneità espressa tramite il mito.
Si è optato per una scenografia che sottolineasse una struttura senza tempo, ma anche antica ed eterna con l’intervento di elementi suggestivi e funzionali; la presenza della vasca rimanda ad un legame antico con l’acqua, al liquido amniotico della creazione ma anche alla più didascalica interpretazione del mare di Corinto.
La struttura ad anello, grazie al suo movimento rotatorio, lascia percepire il nucleo che pulsa all’interno del dramma: la vendetta del femmineo costretto ad emanciparsi sopprimendo il lato materno nell’eterna lotta dei sessi. L'anello, oltre ad essere elemento più astratto e contemporaneo, rappresenta anche la maternità di Medea: l'anello (Medea) che custodisce la sfera (i bambini) nell'ultimo atto si trasforma, mentre l'anello sparisce, Medea sceglie di abbandonare lo spirito materno ma la sfera si raddoppia, perché il peso dell'assassinio dei figli l'accompagnerà per sempre.
